Arthur Edwin Vickers was the eldest of three children, all boys born to Alice and the late Frederick Vickers, Frederick had died around 1902, this left Alice to rear the boys on her own.
Arthur was working as a tool maker in a local foundry, when he joined up with the Pals on the 6th of September 1914,
He served as a cook with number 4 platoon of A company, at Colsterdale Egypt and France.
His discharge as no longer fit for service on the 20th of July 1917 was due to wounds received the previous year in the 1st of July battle of the Somme.
