| John Brook lived at 48 Lower Oxford Street in Castleford, West Yorkshire and enlisted with the Pals in May, 1915. | |
|
At that time, he was a clerk at the Prince
Of Wales colliery, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. (Pontefract -
approximately 3 miles from Castleford).
After training at Colsterdale, saw
service in Egypt and France where, like so many of his 'Pals', was
killed in action during the Battle of the Somme
on the 1st July 1916. His Brother, 24150 - Sgt Wilfred Brook who enlisted at the same time in the 2/5th Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, survived the war, being discharged on the 30th March 1919. |
