15/1075 Private/ 2^nd Lieutenant H Cheesborough

Born 1892 Batley, West Yorks.
Killed in Action, 4/9/1918 age 24.

Harold Cheesborough, who had been educated at Batley Grammar School was working as a clerk with the local bank when he joined the Pals in December 1914. His address at the time was 5, Elland Road, Churwell Hill, Morley.
On enlistment, he was appointed Lance corporal in the signalling Section of 'A' Company under Lt Evelyn Henry Lintott.

He served with the Pals in Colsterdale, Egypt and France.

In July 1917, after nearly 3 years away from home, he was given home leave and whilst on leave, he married his sweetheart Nellie Mitchell at Morley, Leeds.

He was eventually given a commission as a 2^nd Lieutenant on the 29^th January 1918, with the 52^nd Battalion (Training Reserve), West Yorkshire Regiment.

On the 4^th September 1918, whilst on attachment to the 10^th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action.

His body is buried in Pont D’Achelles Military Cemetery Nieppe France.
