Born: Brecon, Wales
Killed In Action 1st July 1916. Aged 40

William Cresswell Davis, was living with his widowed mother at 7, Blenheim Place, Leeds when war was declared. He enlisted with the “Pals” alongside many other Leeds Modern School 'old boys'. 
At School he had been a prominent sportsman and was the first winner (in 1894) of the senior Challenge Cup. After service in Colsterdale, Egypt and France as a platoon bomber, he was killed within the first few minutes of the attack on July 1st
(The Battle of the Somme). The most senior “Old Boy” who fell in action.

Having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
