George
Stanley Fairburn-Hart was the only son of Mr. William and Florence (nee
Camburn) Fairburn-Hart, a Patent Agent, of Park Row, Newlay, Leeds. On
the outbreak of War, whilst living at 6 Airedale Cliffe, Pollard Lane,
Bramley, Leeds, he enlisted into the “Leeds Pals” on the 5th
September 1914. He
served with the Pals, at Colsterdale, Egypt and in France, where he soon
gained his second stripe, to become a Corporal. On
the 27th of April 1916, the fourth night the “Pals” were in
the line, the German artillery retaliated with a bombardment after his
company had opened fire from their trenches with a machine gun. The
bombardment killed two “Pals”, and wounded nine, including Lieutenant
James Kenneth Wardle and George Stanley Fairburn-Hart. Soon after George
had been brought in, he died of his wounds. He is buried in Beauval Communal Cemetery. |
