Killed in action 1st July 1916. Aged 20

Arthur Edwin Fillingham was the son of Arthur Herbert Fillingham and Kate Fillingham of 3, The Crescent, Street Lane, Roundhay, Leeds. West Yorkshire. From age 10 to 15, he held a choral scholarship at Linclon Cathedral and then attended Leeds Modern School where he also played cricket for the school.
After completing hi education, he joined the staff of the Legal and General Assurance Co in Leeds.
On the outbreak of the war he joined the Leeds Pals Battalion on its formation and trained as a platoon bomber. He served in Colsterdale, Egypt and France.

Wounded on the 1st of May 1916, he returned to the battalion in time to take part in the July offensive (Battle of the Somme) and like so many 'Pals', was reported killed in action.

Having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial in France.
