15/1786 Cpl. Albert Frobisher


Born Castleford, West Yorkshire. 1886
Died Of Wounds August 22nd 1916 - Age 30

Albert Frobisher was born in the mining town of Castleford, West Yorkshire. Married and lived on Pinfold Lane in Methley, West Yorkshire, a small village about 3 miles from his birthplace.

He enlisted in the 'Pals' during the early part of 1915 and served in Colsterdale, Egypt and France. One of the fortunate few, survived the Battle of the Somme (1st July 1916) but was later wounded by a German trench raiding party on the 20th August 1916. He died of these wounds two days later.

The Battalion war diary lists the following casualties for the 'Trench raid'..........
One officer and six other ranks killed.
Two officers and seventeen other ranks wounded.

One of the wounded was 15/549 Pte Horace H. Killen who's brother, 15/550 Pte John W. Killen had been killed on the 1st July 1916. The two brothers had enlisted together on the 4th September 1914 and had both served in 'B' company throughout Colsterdale, Egypt and France.
Horace Killen succumbed to his wounds on the same day as Albert Frobisher - August 22nd 1916.
