2nd Lieutenant A. Liversedge. |
|
|
|
Eldest son
of Albert Liversedge a bottlemaker* by trade, and his wife Ann, of
39 Newport Street, Jack Lane, Hunslet Road, Leeds.
He was educated at Wheelwright Grammar School, Dewsbury,
Yorkshire where he gained a scholarship to the Leeds Higher grade school
and then studied to become a teacher at Leeds Training College. He enlisted with the "Pals" as a Private in
September 1914 and because of his academic background was immediately
promoted to Sergeant. His commission back into the battalion as a 2nd
Lieutenant came on 26th June 1915. On July 1st, his birthday, he was severely
wounded and like many of his comrades died the following day. * The art of bottlemaking must have been a Liversedge family tradition, as his grandfather Albert was also a bottlemaker. |
