Gerhard Arnulf Klouman was the youngest of four children born to Norwegian parents Fredrick and Marie Klouman, of 10, Robb Street, Beeston, Leeds. Fredrick an engineering draughtsman and his apprenticed son Gerhard were employed by Samuel Denison and son weighing machine manufacturers, of Hunslet, Leeds.
At the outbreak of war Gerhard volunteered on 4/9/1914 aged 16 ( under age ) , he served with the Pals as a machine gunner and bomber with B company no 9 platoon machine gun section in Colsterdale, Egypt and France.
Like so many of the Pals he was killed in action on the 1st of July.
Having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, France
