Killed in action, France 1st of July 1916, aged 23.
At the time of his enlistment on September 9th 1914, Hugh Bearne Odgers one of 9 children, 2 of which died in infancy, Born to Elizabeth a widow and the late William J Odgers, was living with the family at Ash grove, Hyde park Leeds. He served first as Corporal then as a Sergeant with number 5 platoon of B company in Colsterdale Egypt and France.
Hugh Bearne Odgers was killed in action on the first day of the battle of the Somme 1916 , he lies in Serre number 1 cemetery, France.
Two elder brothers also fought in the war, Sydney served first as a Corporal with the London regiment and ended the war as a Captain in the tank corps.
William served as a Private in the 22nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry.
